Microdosing guide

Microdosing Schedule: Fadiman, Stamets and How to Pick One

A microdosing schedule tells you which days you take a capsule and which days you don't. The classic one is 1 day on, 2 days off: 10 doses in four weeks. Here's a four-week calendar for each common protocol, why the days off matter, and how to pick the one that fits your week.

The basics

What a microdosing schedule is, and why the rest days are the point

A microdosing schedule is a repeating pattern of dose days and off days, and the off days are there to keep tolerance down. Psilocybin tolerance builds fast. The day after a dose, you'd need about 2× the amount to feel the same thing. By day 3 that's about 1.5×, by day 7 about 1.15×, and it's mostly back to baseline by day 14.

So dosing every day isn't a stronger version of microdosing. Each capsule just does less than the one before. Spacing your doses keeps a 150 mg capsule working like 150 mg. The tolerance calculator shows what the number of days since your last dose means for the next one.

The research supports spacing doses but doesn't pick a winning schedule. A qualitative study of microdosing practices found that once every three days was the regimen people reported most. An observational study of 953 psilocybin microdosers noted that surveys generally land on 3–5 times per week at 0.1–0.3 g of dried mushroom. Nobody has shown that one schedule beats the others.

Protocol one

The Fadiman protocol: 1 day on, 2 days off

The Fadiman protocol is one dose, then two days with nothing, then the cycle starts again. That's a capsule every third day, or 10 doses in 28 days. It's the classic approach and the one we suggest for a first month.

The usual explanation is that a dose carries over into the next day, and the third day gives you a clean baseline. A 2025 University of British Columbia Okanagan diary study questioned that. Participants reported feeling more connected, creative and focused on dose days, but those effects didn't appear to persist on the days they didn't dose. Either way, two off days keep tolerance low and give you something to compare against.

  • Dose days per week: 2 or 3, because the 3-day cycle moves across the weekdays
  • Capsules per four weeks: 10
  • Good for: your first month, a clear baseline to compare against, anyone whose sleep is easily thrown off
  • Trade-off: dose days won't fall on the same weekdays each week, so you'll want a calendar or a phone reminder
Protocol two

The Stamets stack: 4 days on, 3 days off

The Stamets stack is four dose days in a row, then three days off, every week. That's 16 doses in four weeks, about 1.6 times what Fadiman uses. Its main advantage is that it's easy to remember: Monday to Thursday on, Friday to Sunday off.

The cost is tolerance. By day 4 of a run you've dosed three days in a row, so the fourth capsule usually lands softer than the first. Three off days bring you partway back to baseline, not all the way. The original version also pairs each dose with other supplements. We don't sell those, so this page only covers the timing.

More capsules, same strength

Stamets uses 16 capsules in four weeks, against 10 on Fadiman. If you start on Stamets, start at 150 mg. Softer days 3 and 4 make it tempting to go up a strength, and that's usually the wrong fix.

Other options

Every-other-day and intuitive schedules

Every-other-day dosing is one day on, one day off, which comes to 14 doses in four weeks. It sits between Fadiman and Stamets. Each dose comes after a single off day, when you'd still need about 2× to feel the same thing, so the same capsule may feel a little weaker than it would on Fadiman.

Intuitive microdosing means you dose when it suits your week and still keep regular rest days. It works for people who've done at least four weeks on a fixed schedule and know what a dose day feels like for them. For a beginner it usually turns into guesswork: there's no baseline to compare against, and it's easy to slide into dosing more often than you meant to.

Calendar

A four-week calendar for each protocol

Here's what 28 days look like on each schedule, starting on a Monday. Fadiman doesn't line up with a 7-day week, so your dose days move forward one weekday each cycle.

Starting on another weekday? Shift the whole table. Whatever day you start, make your first dose a quiet day when you don't have to drive, present or make big decisions. You'll see how it affects you before you take one on a busy day.

Choosing

How to choose: goals, workdays, sleep and sensitivity

If it's your first month, pick Fadiman. It uses the fewest capsules, keeps tolerance lowest and gives you the most off days to compare against. After four weeks you'll have 10 dose days to look back on, which is enough to tell whether you want more or less.

Which schedule fits which situation

If this sounds like youTryWhy
First month, never microdosedFadimanLowest tolerance, most baseline days, 10 capsules
You want dose days on the same weekdays every weekStametsMon–Thu every week is easy to remember
Your sleep is easily thrown offFadiman, dosing in the morningFewer dose days and more recovery between them

We suggest dosing in the morning, because people commonly report that a capsule taken late in the day gets in the way of sleep. Keep a short daily note for the 28 days: sleep, mood, focus, anything that felt off. Write it on off days too, or you'll have nothing to compare against.

Adjusting

When to switch, pause or stop

Switch schedules only after a full four-week run, and change one thing at a time. If you change the schedule and the strength in the same week, you won't know which one made the difference.

1

A dose day feels noticeable

If you see visual changes, feel wired or can't focus, the dose is too high for a microdose. Skip the next scheduled dose, then come back at a lower strength.

2

You've finished 4 to 8 weeks

A common approach is to run a schedule for 4 to 8 weeks, then stop for at least 2 weeks. That lines up with tolerance returning to baseline around day 14, so the next round starts fresh.

3

You feel worse, not better

More anxiety, poor sleep, headaches or low mood are reasons to stop, not to push through. Text or call us at (971) 370-8474, daily 10 am–10 pm PT, and we'll talk it through.

4

Life gets busy

Travel, illness or a stressful week are good reasons to pause. When you come back, start again at day 1 of your schedule.

Before you start any schedule

SSRIs and other antidepressants can blunt the effects. MAOIs and lithium can be dangerous in combination with psilocybin. If you take prescription medication, talk to a healthcare professional first. Don't microdose if you or a close family member has a history of schizophrenia, psychosis or bipolar disorder, or while you're pregnant or breastfeeding. If you're in crisis, call the SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357 (free, confidential, 24/7) or the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Nothing on this page is medical advice.

Capsules

Matching the schedule to a capsule strength

For your first month, take 150 mg capsules whichever schedule you pick. A typical microdose is 100–300 mg of dried mushroom. Our capsules are filled to an exact 150, 350 or 600 mg of dried mushroom material (the weight of mushroom, not the psilocybin content), so there's nothing to weigh (measuring dried mushrooms by hand is harder than it sounds). The dosage calculator shows where your body weight and experience put you.

What each schedule costs in capsules (prices from /order)

ScheduleCapsules needed150 mg350 mg
Fadiman, 4 weeks1010 caps $10010 caps $125
Every other day, 4 weeks1420 caps $16020 caps $200
Stamets, 4 weeks1620 caps $16020 caps $200
Fadiman, 16 weeks4040 caps $28040 caps $350

350 mg is above the typical 100–300 mg microdose range. It suits people who've done a full month at 150 mg without noticing much, or whose body weight puts them higher on the chart, so check the calculator before you step up. 600 mg isn't a first-month microdose for most people. Strain matters too: Golden Teacher is the potency the dosing chart assumes, while Albino Penis Envy and Albino Bluey Vuitton are stronger by weight. Start those at the bottom of any range, or below it.

You'll find the 150 mg and 350 mg capsules on the order page in all three strains. Bulk tiers are 20% off at 20 capsules and 30% off at 40. Every order comes with free dosage guidance, so if you can't decide on a schedule, text us and ask.

FAQ

Common questions

You can, but each dose does less than the one before. The day after a psilocybin dose you'd need about twice the amount to feel the same thing, so daily dosing mostly builds tolerance. That's why every protocol on this page builds in days off. If you want more dose days than Fadiman's 10 in four weeks, every-other-day (14) or the Stamets stack (16) are the usual next steps.
A common approach is to run a schedule for 4 to 8 weeks, then take a break of at least 2 weeks. Tolerance is mostly back to baseline by day 14, so two weeks off means the next round starts fresh. Four weeks on one schedule at one strength gives you 10 to 16 dose days to judge it by, which is enough to decide whether to change anything.
Nothing bad happens, and you shouldn't take two capsules to make up for it. Either take your capsule the next day and count that as your new day 1, or skip it and wait for the next scheduled dose day. On Fadiman, a missed dose just means a longer gap, so your next capsule lands with a bit less tolerance.
Make your first dose on a quiet day off, then dose on whatever days your schedule calls for. On that first day, don't drive or take on anything demanding until you know how it affects you. After that, plenty of people dose on workdays, which is why Stamets runs Monday to Thursday. On Fadiman, dose days move around the week, so some will fall on weekends.
Four weeks on Fadiman is 10 doses, so a 10-capsule pack covers it: $100 at 150 mg or $125 at 350 mg. If you plan to keep going, 40 capsules covers 16 weeks at 30% off, which is $280 at 150 mg. For comparison, Stamets uses 16 capsules in four weeks and every-other-day uses 14, so a 20-capsule pack covers either.
Yes, but it's easier to compare if you finish a full four weeks first. If you do switch partway through, start the Stamets run after a normal Fadiman off day and stay at the same strength. You'll be dosing more often, so expect days 3 and 4 of each run to feel a little weaker. That's tolerance, not a sign you need a stronger capsule.
